The Plaza

The Plaza is underrated by most guidebooks. The tall building with 1,037 rooms can be seen above all the other hotel and casinos in downtown Las Vegas. It sits at the head of the Fremont Experience at Fremont and Main. Though it has long since seen its glory days, The Plaza is one of the most fun places to gamble downtown. Beginners would do well to pick up some experience at the low limit table games at the Plaza before heading to the bigger casinos for pricier stakes. There are $5 Blackjack tables, $5 Baccarat, and $10 Pai Gow Poker tables. Their Craps game also only asks a $5 minimum. The staff is friendly, the sports book is old school, and if you’ve always wanted to gamble with an Elvis impersonator crooning in the background, this is your place. The Omaha Lounge is always jumping, especially on weekends. Foodwise—If you like eating at Panda Express, you won’t mind the cheap buffet. There is also a Subway, a proper dining room that overlooks the Fremont Experience called Center Stage, and an Italian restaurant named Manetti’s which features singing Italian waiters. You can’t miss the advertisements for a 9lb burger upstairs or the $14.95 Celebrity Champagne Brunch.

The Plaza is your place for downtown poker tourneys and run opposite Binion’s schedule. They have three $50 No Limit Texas Hold’em tournaments a day. “Nuts at Noon” is at noon, “Lucky Seven” begins at 7:00 p.m., and “Midnight Madness” is just as the name suggests. In the spotlight is their World Poker Classic which they hold every April/May. If you watch poker on TV, you’ll recognize the Plaza.
