Las Vegas What to Do in Vegas

There’s no limit to the things you can do during your visit. We’ve come up with a few ideas though to get you off to a flying start.

Sugarcane Opens at The Palazzo

Sugarcane, the new nightclub at The Shoppes at The Palazzo Las Vegas

Last week we mentioned the restaurant SushiSamba had opened at The Palazzo. This weekend, its companion lounge area had its grand opening.

Sugarcane, as the nightclub has been dubbed, debuted on Friday and is the first West Coast location for SushiSamba’s late night offerings. A dark corridor from the restaurant leads guests to the 4,000-sq-ft venue, which looks like no other club in town that I’ve seen.

The stage, dance floor and DJ booth are made of bamboo, as well as …

As promised, here are more of the new images from the show Believe, a joint production between illusionist Criss Angel and Cirque du Soleil that will be housed at the Luxor.Part of the storyline takes place in a nightmare world, and these images certainly show the costuming taking a darker turn from the brighter colored images we showed in the previous post

Note the interesting mixture of Victorian, Renaissance and Gothic styles in the costuming.

During the event, a barrel full of said sake is broken open by wooden mallets for good luck and then the beverage is served to everyone in attendance.

These albums rocketed to the top of the charts and garnered them four Grammys.

The Choreography of Cirque du Soliel’s Believe

In the last two posts, I showed you some great new stills from the upcoming show Believe, which will be opening soon at the Luxor.

One last set of new images from the upcoming Criss Angel and Cirque du Soleil production is a pair of photos showcasing the dancers.

In the first photo, note the oddly-angled body positions and serious, almost scowling facial expressions.

Now, when paired with the costuming, the same positioning and expressions add to the menacing atmosphere of the fantasy nightmare world of the show’s storyline, even though most of …

Launch Dates for Criss Angel’s Cirque du Soleil Show Pushed Back

Though illusionist Criss Angel is hard at work on finishing touches for his upcoming Cirque du Soleil show, Believe, the Luxor issued a statement this week that preview dates have been pushed back slightly to give him a little more time to tweak some things in the show, especially since the theater took longer to finish than expected.

Why the Las Vegas Monorail is a nightmare

Anyone who has seen the “Simpsons” episode called Marge vs. the Monorail already has a good idea how this story will likely end. To sum it up, a city that has no use for one gets swindled into installing a modern monorail system that seems to go nowhere. In the case of fictional Springfield, it went in a loop around town, and in the case of Las Vegas, it goes back and forth so far behind the Strip that most people don’t even realize it’s there, much less give in to the temptation to ride it.

I would love to report that the Las Vegas Monorail was a valuable part of its future transportation scheme, but unless they can get authority to extend the line to McCarran Airport soon, this thing will probably be closed down or begin collapsing on its own. By the way, the city’s taxi drivers are major opponents of extending the monorail to the airport, which is as understandable as it is sad, since it would certainly put quite a few of them out of work in 2020 or whenever they’d complete the thing.

Here’s why the Las Vegas Monorail sucks:

The thing handles like a Tijuana taxi
When you first hear that a new monorail system has been built in a city drowning in cash, you would naturally expect it to be built somewhere in the NASA/Disneyland range of quality, but nothing could be further from the truth. Once underway, the carriages shake and rattle down the track so much that most people start looking for parachutes and emergency exits, just in case. This might be the biggest surprise of all, that the newest monorail since North Haverbrook’s has been built with all the precision of a prison riot.
