Clark County breaks a new record with gaming revenues passing the $1 billion mark. Sadly, in this same year, Elvis Presley died on August 16. His father Vernon and ex-wife Priscilla dedicated a bronze statue to his memory at the International Hotel. Elvis lived in the 30th floor Imperial Suite there during 1969.
