Normally when you hear of someone building a replica of a city out of LEGOs, you think, “This person has way too much time on their hands.” But when a theme park does it and that city is Las Vegas, well, it’s pretty cool.
LEGOLAND (yes, they use all capitals) California, the family theme park owned and operated by the toy manufacturer, has opened up a new attraction for guests…a scale replica of the famous Las Vegas Strip, made entirely out of LEGO pieces. More than two-million pieces, to be exact.
Starting at a 20-foot tall Stratosphere tower, the attraction includes other Strip landmarks such as the Luxor, New York, New York, Excalibur, Mirage, Treasure Island, Tropicana, MGM Grand, Venetian, and two iconic structures of Paris Las Vegas, the balloon sign and Eiffel Tower. Other features include a miniature wedding chapel, monorails and sounds recorded on the Strip, to add more realism to the attraction.
And this isn’t merely a stationary exhibit. Interactive features have been built into the replicas, including an exploding volcano in front of the Mirage, fireboats squirting water in front of the New York, New York, and working versions of the thrill rides at the top of the Stratosphere.
Wow, it’s almost like being on the Strip…only in plastic miniature.
LEGO Las Vegas is part of the park’s Miniland U.S.A. area, which features six other cities in miniature form. Entrance to the attraction is included in the regular park ticket. For more details on ticket options, visit legoland.com.
