
In the last post, I gave a rundown of all the club events scheduled for Las Vegas this New Year’s Eve. But that’s merely the tip of the party iceberg. There are even more events, ranging from concerts to special dinner events, to choose from when deciding how you’re going to ring in 2008.
Here’s a look at some of these key events for December 31st, 2007:
Concerts and Special Events -
America’s Party Las Vegas New Year on the Strip - Tickets: Free
Grab a spot anywhere on the Strip and look up to the sky to witness hundreds of fireworks displays shooting off from casinos up and down S. Las Vegas Blvd. at the stroke of midnight. The theme of the fireworks display this year is said to be “The Best is yet to Come,” and will feature swing and big band musical elements to accompany the fireworks. Best of all it costs nothing to see the show, and it’s open to all ages. Certain vantage points, such as the Stratosphere tower, and the outside terraces/balconies at clubs such as the Rio’s Voodoo Lounge and Ghostbar at the Palms, will have cover charges. But the street itself is completely free to all.
America’s Party Live featuring The Bangles and The Doobie Brothers at the Fremont Street Experience - Tickets: $60
The Fremont Experience will section off five blocks under the canopy for this one night celebration that features special concerts by The Doobie Brothers and The Bangles, along with shows by the Rides of the Thunderdome and a special canopy holiday show, capped off by a themed fireworks extravaganza from the tops of several downtown casinos. Dream New Year’s Eve Party at Mandalay Bay - Tickets: $299
Spend the evening at Mandalay Bay with a four-course dinner and cocktails, commemorative photo, a New Years gift and entertainment by popular dance band Boogie Knights all included in your $299 ticket price. The evening starts at 8pm and you can purchase your tickets at the Mandalay Bay box office.
Earth, Wind & Fire at The Venetian - Tickets: $89 to $199
Legendary R&B band Earth, Wind & Fire headlines the New Year’s Eve festivities at The Venetian, complete with midnight toast by Piper Heidsieck champagne and complimentary party favors. The show starts at 10pm, and tickets are priced at $89, $129, $149 and $199. Purchase yours at the Venetian box office or by calling 702.414.9000. You must be 21 or older to attend. As an extra bonus, purchase a ticket to the Tao celebration hosted by Mariah Carey for only $75 in conjunction with your EW&F ticket.
An Evening in Venice at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas - Tickets: $125
The Ritz-Carlton is replicating Venice for New Year’s with an entire evening that begins with a cocktail reception at 8pm, followed by a buffet dinner and a five-piece band that will ring in 2008. Party favors and a champagne toast are included and tickets can be purchased by calling 702.939.8888.
Terry Fator at Las Vegas Hilton - Tickets: $49 to $149
“America’s Got Talent” winner Terry Fator plays the Las Vegas Hilton, bringing with him his cast of puppets for hilarious family-friendly show. Tickets for the 8pm show are $39.95 for general admission and $149 for VIP tickets that include a meet-and-greet. Purchase at the Las Vegas Hilton box office or by calling 800.222.5361.
Goo Goo Dolls at House of Blues - Tickets: $95 to $135
Rock band The Goo Goo Dolls, who’ve hit the charts many times with songs like “Iris” and the recent remake of “Give a Little Bit”, headline the House of Blues New Year’s Eve with a 10:30pm show. Tickets are $95 and $135 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster or the House of Blues box office. You must be 21 or older to attend.
Las Vegas Tenors at South Point - Tickets: $20
These classical vocalists headline what South Point is calling “New Year’s Eve at noon” with a special concert that starts at noon, with a special champagne toast, party favors and drink specials. Tickets are $20 and are available at the hotel box office. You must be 21 or older to attend.
New Year’s Eve Dance Party with The Whip Its at South Point - Tickets: $90
Join popular 80s dance band The Whip Its as they ring in 2008 with an open bar until midnight, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight included in the $90 ticket price. Purchase your tickets at the South Point box office. You must be 21 or older to attend.
New Year’s Eve Salsa Party with The Michito Sanchez Orchestra at South Point - Tickets: $50
Salsa in 2008 by attending this party at South Point. Your $50 ticket includes two drinks, party favors and a midnight champagne toast. You can purchase tickets at the hotel box office and you must be 21 or older to attend.
New Year’s Eve with Yellow Brick Road at Boulder Station - Tickets: $29.95 advance/$34.95 day of
Doors open at 10pm for this party headlined by a performance from rock cover band Yellow Brick Road. Purchase tickets at the Boulder Station box office.
Tony Orlando at Cannery Casino - Tickets: $56 to $140
Your ticket to see the legendary Tony Orlando includes a dinner package and the restaurant you choose determines the ticket pricing. Choose the buffet for $56, Vino’s Italian Ristorante for $88 and go deluxe with Waverly’s Steak House for $140. Orlando takes the stage at 10:30pm and tickets for all of these packages are available at the Cannery Casino box office.
The Original Family Stone at the Orleans - Tickets: $82.50
Sly & the Family Stone are funk music legends and the original members of the Family Stone will be ringing in 2008 at The Orleans. You must be 21 or older to attend and tickets can be purchased at the hotel box office.
Imelda Papin with David Pomeranz at the Orleans - Tickets: $60 to $120
Enjoy a Latin New Year’s Eve party at the Orleans with Papin and Pomeranz. Ticket prices are based on seat choice and the 10:30pm show is all ages. Purchase at the Orleans box office.
Red Bull Experiment (Rio parking lot) - Tickets: $12
Extreme sports fans will want to check out Robbie Maddison and Rhys Millen who will attempt to set Guinness world records in the parking lot of the Rio for New Year’s Eve. Australia’s Maddison will attempt to jump the length of a football field to set a new motorcycle distance record and Millen, a New Zealand stunt driver will attempt the first-ever back-flip off a racing truck. ESPN will be there filming live and tickets are only $12. Purchase at the Rio box office or by calling 702.777.7776
Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine at AJ’s Steakhouse at the Hard Rock - Tickets: $65 and $75
Tickets are almost sold out for Cheese and his band which have become popular doing lounge versions of pop, rock and metal songs. This special 11:30pm show is priced at $65 for general admission or $75 for theater and cabaret reserved seating, which includes free champagne. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster or the Hard Rock box office.
Debbie Reynolds at South Point - Tickets: $140
A legend of the stage and screen, Debbie Reynolds will be hosting a special New Year’s Eve dinner show that begins at 9pm. $140 admission includes dinner, an open bar, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight, as well as Ms. Reynolds herself. Tickets are available at the South Point box office. You must be 21 or older to attend.
The 3rd annual New Year’s Eve Dance Party Featuring Purple Reign (Prince Tribute) at the House of Blues courtyard - Tickets: $50
It may be 2008 and not 1999, but that’s no reason not to get down with this band that pays tribute to his purple badness. There are no drinks included with this party ticket, but that means that all ages can attend (though those 16 and under must be with a parent or legal guardian). Purchase your tickets at Ticketmaster or the House of Blues box office.
Three Doors Down at the Joint at the Hard Rock - Tickets: $86.50
This award-winning rock band from Mississippi will be ringing in the new year with a special show that starts at 9pm at the Hard Rock. They have a new cd coming out early next year, and have promised to debut some of their new songs at the show. The show is all-ages and tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster or the Hard Rock box office.
Kanye West at Pearl at the Palms - Tickets: $150 to $350
One of the most influential songwriters and rappers in music today, Kanye West will be ringing in 2008 with a special 10:30pm show at the Pearl at the Palms. Tickets for this all-ages show range from $150 for casino and mezzanine level seating all the way up to $350 for the side box seating, and are available at the Palms box office and via Ticketmaster.

Diablo’s Cantina (Monte Carlo)
Diablo’s rings out 2007 with a live band Rated TG and additional tunes by DJ Que. General admission is $50 per person, but I suggest upgrading to the $125 ticket which gets you open bar from 8-11pm and complimentary appetizers from 8pm-midnight. KVBC Channel 3 as they broadcast the festivities all evening live from Diablo’s open-air patio. Book online or by calling 702.693.8300.
Fix (Bellagio)
Indulge in a four-course New Year’s Eve menu with champagne for $325 per person, with a two-guest minimum. Stack (Mirage)

Las Vegas Monorail New Year’s Eve Special Hours
Even though the Strip will close to vehicles and buses on New Year’s Eve, the Las Vegas Monorail will continue to operate until 3am on its regular route from the MGM Grand to the Sahara, making it a convenient way to sample all the various parties and events happening on the Strip. Even better, they are offering the $15 all-day pass for only $9.
