Las Vegas Marathon 2005

Don’t trip on the hooker ads! City and county officials have ok’d a marathon to be held on the Las Vegas Strip in early December. Yep, the first one ever to run right down the middle. Capped at 15,000 runners, they’ll start at Mandalay Bay and make their way through Fremont Street.

The city is pretty excited about this event and figures it’ll bring a great deal of cha-ching to businesses. “Fifteen-thousand runners will mean 25 to 30 thousand people will land in Las Vegas for two to three days. And we’ll have expos and events for them. So the impact could be enormous,” said Gordon Kane of Devine Racing Company. [via 8 Eyewitness News with Alyson McCarthy]

Book your hotel early because that is also when the National Finals Rodeo is in town, and travelers already needed to book ridiculously early for beds. And don’t even think about doubting the cowboys, 140,000 people attend this event each year.
