boyziimen.jpgNobody epitomizes the 90s R&B sound like Philly’s Boyz II Men. The quartet were discovered by New Edition’s Michael Bivins and scored a hit right out of the box with their debut album, CooleyHighHarmony. But even though the album went platinum on the basis of the uptempo single “MotownPhilly,” the quartet discovered that their harmonies sounded much better on ballads. The public agreed, sending their next three singles — “End of the Road,” “On Bended Knee” and “I’ll Make Love To You” — to the top of the charts. The band scored another number one with “One Sweet Day,” a duet with Mariah Carey.

Now down to a trio, the band has a new cd, Throwback, on which the members cover songs that influenced them such as Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature,” Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” and Hall & Oates “Sara Smile.” Boyz II Men are currently on tour in support of this new release, and they have a four-night stint at The Orleans beginning on April 20.
