It’s hard to define the quartet that comprises the vocal group Il Divo. Formed after a two-year search, the group uses their operatic training to give new life and sound to a romantic blend of classical and pop music. The culturally diverse quartet, comprised of American tenor David Miller, French singer Sébastien Izambard, Swiss tenor Urs Buhler, and Spanish baritone Carlos Marin, released their eponymous debut in 2005. Based on singles like a cover of the Toni Braxton hit, “Unbreak My Heart,” the album became a worldwide hit.
Their second cd, Ancora, was released this year to similar fanfare, with operatic takes on pop classics like “Unchained Melody” and Mariah Carey’s “Hero.” The first single, “I Believe In You,” is performed with Celine Dion, a Vegas staple.
Il Divo will be appearing at Mandalay Bay on June 23, and though there’s no word if Ms. Dion will show as a suprise guest, the quartet’s smooth voices are sure to win over the crowd.
