Lake Mead

Lake Mead is the body of water that exists between North Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam. It is the largest man made reservoir and covers more than 200 square miles. It stretches 110 miles long and is a popular spot for swimmers. Echo Bay is less crowded and has better sand than Boulder Bay, which is the closest to Las Vegas. Entrance fees vary.

Boat rentals, camping facilities, and a floating restaurant are available at the Lake Mead Resort Marina. You can also catch a cruise aboard the Desert Princess for a 90 minute ride. Cost: $19-$55. The tour leaves three times a day at noon, 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. during the months April – October.

**Jen’s Vegas Travel Tip**
There is a town at the bottom of the lake. St Thomas, an old farming community, has been submerged since 1937. Divers are allowed to explore the remains, and drivers can sometimes see remains of the town from the Overton Beach/Valley of Fire juncture.
