Mount Charleston

If you’re wondering what those snowcapped mountains are over there by Red Rock Canyon, then you’ve just spied Mount Charleston. Just under 12,000 feet at the summit, there are 50 miles of marked hiking trails for outdoor lovers of all abilities. The most strenuous is the North Loop Trail which runs 10 miles. Those looking for an easier jaunt could try the Bristlecone Loop or the Robber’s Roost trail which run about a quarter-mile long. Accommodations and fireside lounging can be found at the Mount Charleston Hotel and the Mount Charleston Lodge.

Caveat: You might need chains and snow tires if heading up during the winter. Call the Nevada Department of Transportation for more information, 702.486.3116.

Directions: Mt. Charleston is 35 miles from the Strip. Take I-15 west to the US 95 North. Keep going on 95 until you hit Kyle Canyon Road. Here you can follow the signs to Mount Charleston.
