Over the last ten years, one of the city’s biggest star-studded events has been the annual CineVegas Film Festival. Tonight, the 2009 CineVegas kicks off at The Palms.

cinevegas09Now in its eleventh year, the highly regarded film fest has streamlined itself to a shorter length - only six nights versus the normal ten. But it certainly isn’t short on the variety of films or the celebrity-packed events.

Tonight CineVegas 2009 will kick off with the world premiere of Saint John of Las Vegas at The Palms’ Brenden Theatres, which serves as the home base for the festival’s run. The movie stars Steve Buscemi as a gambling-addicted insurance adjuster investigating a case.

During the annual CineVegas Awards ceremony, to be held on Sunday, June 14th, Oscar-winner Jon Voight will be recognized with the fest’s CineVegas’ Marquee Award, recognizing his artistic excellence, professional accomplishment and dedication to cinema. As part of his tribute, CineVegas will present the newly remastered director’s cut of Voight’s film Lookin’ To Get Out, followed by a Q&A with the actor.

During the same event, actor Willem Dafoe will be honored with the Vanguard Actor Award. Dafoe will also take part in a Q&A session earllier in the day at 3pm.

Other highlights include the Saturday, June 13th showing of the Beatles’ classic Yellow Submarine at Mandalay Bay Beach and the Monday, June 15th showing of the cult classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman at a mock outdoor drive-in that will be created for the evening at the intersection of Fremont St and 3rd St downtown. Only $10 a piece for admission to these fun outdoor events!

In fact, one of the best things about CineVegas is that for as little as $10, you can get a ticket to one of these movies, or any of the others playing during the six day run of the event. Try nabbing a $10 ticket at Sundance.

Day passes start at $40 per person and include admission to that evening’s after parties. Multi-day passes start at $100 and top out at $500 for a run of event pass that includes all parties, as well as carte blanche admission to any film showing during the festival.

All tickets and passes are available for sale online www.cinevegas.com and by calling 888-8VEGAS8. Individual movie tickets will also be available at the Festival’s box office at the Brenden Theatres at the Palms Casino Resort.
