Hotels on the Las Vegas Strip

by Roger

LV stripStaying on the Las Vegas Strip can make for an unforgettable vacation. This 4-mile section of Las Vegas Boulevard South is home to a couple dozen mega-resorts that are in an ongoing competition to be the biggest and the best. At least 9 of them have more than 3,000 rooms, which comfortable puts them all in the largest 15 hotels in the world.

Almost all the most famous resorts and casinos in Las Vegas are located on the Strip, so the majority of the city’s visitors end up staying somewhere on this famous stretch of traffic-clogged road. These hotels tend to cost more than their off-strip cousins, but the added excitement and better location is usually worth it, especially for first-time visitors.

Deciding at which Strip hotel to stay

This decision used to be more complicated since several of them had better locations than the others, which allowed guests to move about freely up and down the Strip to visit other places. But now that the monorail is complete, it’s quite easy to get from the more remote places to the more central places, so location is less of an issue.

Our recommendation is to compare prices of Strip hotels looking for the best bargain. The comfort level and service should be fine in all of the major hotels. If you want value there are a few options below, and if you want luxury here are a few to consider as well.

Three of the most expensive hotels on the Strip

Wynn Las Vegas – This 5-star resort with over 2,700 rooms opened in 2005 as the jewel in the Wynn Resorts crown. This is where the legendary Desert Inn stood, but now it’s arguably the finest hotel in Las Vegas.

Four Seasons Las Vegas – This luxury hotel chain now occupies the top 5 floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. Their 424 rooms are some of the finest in the city, so don’t expect any bargains here.

Bellagio – With almost 4,000 rooms, the Bellagio somehow mixes hugeness and luxury. The casino is known for high limits and well-heeled gamblers, including many famous poker players.

Three of the cheapest hotels on the Strip

Tropicana Hotel and Casino – This 1,800-room hotel is one of the older ones on the Strip, but it’s still quite nice, having been renovated many times over the years. They’ve got a good location and often have very affordable rooms.

Imperial Palace Hotel – This 2,600-room hotel with a Chinese theme might be ready for a renovation, but the facilities are still in good shape and the location is excellent. They often have very cheap rooms compared to their neighbors.

Circus Circus Las Vegas – This circus-themed and family-friendly hotel has nearly 3,800 rooms and a location that has recently gotten better due to new neighbors opening up. They’ve always been one of the cheapest places to stay on the Strip, and they continue to have good prices along with quality rooms.
