‘Rent’ Lands at Paris Las Vegas

rent-logo.jpgImagine having to battle with baseball fans to see a theater show? Thankfully, the company bringing the touring production of “Rent” to town this week opted to move the show from the Cashman Theatre to Le Theatre Des Arts at Paris Las Vegas. The theatre was recently left vacant by the closing of “We Will Rock You.”

Based on Puccini’s “La Boheme,” the opera has been adapted to 1980s New York City and tells the story of a group of young Bohemians struggling to survive in the face of AIDS, destitution, drug addiction, homelessness and other tragic problems. It opened off-Broadway in 1996 and went on to win four Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. The movie version opened last winter and is now out on dvd.

“Rent” will have shows once nightly, today through April 2, with two additional matinees scheduled for the weekend.
