Vegas Around the Web for July 22, 2007

This is my new weekly look at what other sites on the web are saying about Vegas, that I think might be of interest to you. If you have any good links of your own, please leave them in the comments.

  • According to KLAS-TV Vegas, developers are pledging to re-open the shuttered Lady Luck casino downtown within the next two years. It closed in February 2006, which means it will have been closed for over three years.
  • Fellow TV station KVBC gets to the bottom of what caused Wednesday’s hour-long power outage at McCarran airport. Here’s a hint…it wasn’t animal or mineral.
  • Remember the kid’s toy Rock’em Sock’em? Want to know what happens when you bring it to life in Vegas? Watch It Vegas has seven minute video (some matches NSFW) of what goes on at Polly Esther’s weekly “Boxing for Benjamins” promotion. I just want the gloves.
  • Meanwhile, over at, they have the first of a new video series featuring behind-the-scene profiles of Zumanity castmembers. This video is definitely NSFW, but has some great shots from the show.
  • Speaking of Cirque behind-the-scene access, CNET reporter Daniel Terdiman has a series of photos he took of the Ka sets from backstage. It’s very cool, plus I learned that the sand used in the show isn’t really sand. Terdiman also travels the forgotten tunnel that connects two Vegas kingdoms – Caesars Palace and the Imperial Palace – with Las Vegas CityLife editor Matt O’Brien.
