When you think of the Las Vegas Strip, you might think of all the neon lights, the world monuments redone in miniature, the water shows and the casinos. But what you might not think about is that behind all the lights and water fountains, every single one of those casinos is also a gigantic hotel. It is actually hard to imagine that there is anything but hotels in Las Vegas – but people do actually live there. No, really.
But for those of you who do not live in Las Vegas and just need a place to stay between hours at the craps table, the latest Cirque du Soleil show and the famous Las Vegas buffets, finding a Las Vegas hotel is no trouble at all because there are just so darned many of them. Of course, there tend to be people flooding into Las Vegas all year round – some of whom have more money than they know what to do with – so finding a good deal on a great hotel in Las Vegas can sometimes be tricky.
Most of the Las Vegas hotels along The Strip are top-notch – and the prices reflect that. They command high prices because people are willing to pay for the luxury. There are, however, often package deals where your Las Vegas airfare and hotel can be bundled together to save you money on both. Sometimes the hotel rooms included in these packages are of the five-star variety, but more likely they will be average rooms in fun hotels. Hotels in Las Vegas that are away from The Strip are the ones that are more likely to offer budget travelers better options. This is where you are going to find the one- to three-star hotels, which are usually just basic rooms without any frills but are clean and functional. If you are concerned about staying in a dump, pay attention to the descriptions and any guest reviews.
Generally speaking, being able to travel during a popular destination’s low season will mean that you can take advantage of lower prices on things like hotel rooms. In Las Vegas, however, a city that never seems to slow down, it is tougher to pinpoint exactly when that low season is. Some say things get quieter in the winter, although since the Las Vegas weather tends to be more temperate the winter can also be a popular time for people who are sick of snow to head south. In summer it is broiling outside, so if you want your visit to Las Vegas to include outdoor activities in the desert in addition to some gambling, you will want to avoid the height of summer. And, of course, since Las Vegas has become a kind of Mecca for business meetings and trade shows – which can take place year-round – it is harder and harder to find a truly “off-season” here. The good news is that hotel rooms in Las Vegas run the gamut from expensive to cheap year-round as well, so no matter when you plan to visit you will be able to find a hotel room that suits you.
