MGM Grand Hosts Piano Man Billy Joel

billyjoel.jpgBilly Joel is the original Piano Man, a musical icon whose work has influenced generations and entertained millions. And on April 8, he will be bringing his vast catalog of hits to the MGM Grand.

During his 36-year recording career, Joel has had 33 Top 40 singles and sold more than 100 million records. He has been nominated for 23 Grammys and in 1990 was presented with a Grammy Legend Award. He has received honorary doctorates from over five colleges and had a Broadway musical, the Tony Award-winning “Movin’ Out,” based on his music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004.

Last November, Joel took a look back on his music with the release of My Lives, a five-disc (4 cds and 1 dvd) box set that chronicles his career from his early bar band days in Long Island to his recent classical compositions. Included are rare demos, alternate takes, live performances and cover songs — many making their first appearance on cd.

The current tour is Joel’s first solo tour in nearly seven years. The last time he played in Las Vegas was on a double bill with Elton John, who, coincidentally, is in town headlining his own show at Caesar’s Palace.

There is no opening act, so be there on time.
