The New Cars and Blondie at The Aladdin

The New Cars and BlondieIn the early 80s, both The Cars and Blondie were among the leaders of the new wave sound. With hits like “You Might Think,” “Drive” and “Shake It Up,” The Cars were radio and early-MTV favorites. Blondie started their chart dominance a few years earlier, at the end of the disco era, but with hits like “Heart of Glass,” “Rapture” and “The Tide Is High,” they too were radio and video mainstays.

The Cars in 2006 are a slightly different model than the original — joining original guitarist Elliot Easton and keyboardist Greg Hawkes are other well-known musicians of that era: vocalist/guitarist Todd Rundgren, fellow Utopia bassist/vocalist Kasim Sulton and former Tubes drummer Prairie Prince. This line-up has just released a newly recorded album of the band’s greatest hits.

Also newly released is Blondie’s Greatest Hits, a cd/dvd set of the band’s classic tracks. Newly inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the band continues to sound as good as they did in the heyday of their hits.

The two groups have reunited for a tour backed by VH1 Classic that will find both bands playing The Aladdin on May 19. Purchase a ticket online through VH1 Classic or Ticketmaster and the bands will give away free downloads at eMusic.com.
