Golden Nugget: Sunday Champagne Buffet

The Golden Nugget, located downtown on Fremont Street, has been honored as the best downtown hotel in Las Vegas and has earned the AAA four-diamond rating since 1977. In addition to its highly rated accommodations, it has a 38,000 square-foot casino floor, and several good restaurants, including a hearty champagne brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Like any good buffet, there can be a wait at certain times for the brunch, but for the price, it is well worth it. There is a Starbucks nearby for those that need an immediate caffeine fix.

Once inside The Buffet restaurant, you will find that it is almost entirely made up of booth seating, with a few booth/chair combinations, which makes hanging out through several buffet courses comfortable. The food is laid out on only one side of the room, so you do not have to traipse from one side to the other and back again to survey your choices.

You can start with an antipasto platter of cheeses, cold cuts, marinated veggies or head to the salad bar with its offerings of fresh fruits with yogurt and toppings or the traditional salad makings. A sideboard with breakfast breads, such as pecan rolls, donuts and other pastries is located nearby. For the main course, the breakfast offerings include scrambled eggs (with or without lox), breakfast meats, various kinds of potatoes, cheese blintzes, eggs benedict, biscuits & gravy, and freshly made omelettes. The carving station offers roast beef, ham and turkey. There is also a section with specials of the day and side dishes, such as teriyaki chicken, fish, ribs, stuffing, potatoes and vegetables. A separate center buffet offers sushi, lox and cream cheese and other unusual delights.

To cap off your meal, there is a dessert buffet, with a substantial offering of sugar-free treats. Pies, cakes, cookies, the house’s special bread pudding and more will fill in that last empty section of your big toe.
