Vegas Dining News: Wynn Restaurant to Close; M & Silverton Lose Breakfast Buffets; More

mresort-studiobM Resort has decided to move its weekday buffet breakfast from its buffet options at Studio B to the Red Cup Cafe. No word on why, but reports are the offerings are not as many as the Studio B version.

Lunch and dinner Studio B buffet dining still remain ($14.95 and $22.95, respectively), as does the weekend brunch buffet ($24.95) on Saturday and Sunday. Red Cup Cafe also serves a la carte breakfast offerings.

The Las Vegas Advisor is reporting that the Daniel Boulud Brasserie at Wynn Las Vegas will shutter in April 2010. This is when its five-year lease with the resort ends. No word yet on what will replace it, but I’m sure Steve Wynn will make sure it’s first class. After all, the Wynn has so many award winning restaurants already.

Meanwhile, over at the Silverton, the weekday breakfast buffet has also gotten the axe from the hotel.

Seasons Buffet will continue to offer its Saturday and Sunday weekend brunch option (9am-3pm; $16.99), as well as its nightly dinner buffet (Mon-Wed 4pm-8pm $13.99; Thurs 4pm-8pm $19.99; Fri Seafood buffet 4pm-9pm $21.99; Sat 4pm-9pm $19.99).

For breakfast options, the Silverton still has the Sundance Grill (open 24/7) and Starbucks (open at 6:30am).

Cabo Wabo has opened to the public. Located at the Miracle Mile Shops, in what was formerly Trader Vic’s, the Sammy Hagar-owned eatery offers a menu based on its Baja Mexico origins of Cabo, along with a plethora of tequila and other thirst-quenching beverages.

The grand opening, with a live appearance/performance by Hagar, will be December 4, 2009.

Diego Mexican restaurant at the MGM Grand has added several new menu items inspired by traditional recipes of the country. Among them are Sopes de Puerco, 3 Bean Soup, Chilean Sea Bass and more.

Diego is open for dinner nightly beginning at 5pm and reservations are strongly recommended.

Martorano’s at The Rio held its first ever Meatball Eating Championship on November 8. In this timed Major League Eating (MLE) sanctioned competition, Joey Chestnut walked away with first place bragging rights, having eaten 50 meatballs in 10 minutes. He also received $1,500 for his new world-record efforts.

It was a close finish, though, as second place finisher Pat Bertoletti finished only a single meatball behind. On the celebrity front, Playboy cover model Angelica Bridges, Fantasy at the Luxor’s newest cast member, ate a respectable 10 meatballs – after all, she does have to watch her figure for the show.

“Watching the best eaters in the world eat bowl after bowl of my meatballs was a real compliment,” said Steve Martorano, owner/chef of Martorano’s, of the inaugural event. “It was very important to me that they enjoy the meatballs during the championship and I am proud my meatballs could satisfy the appetites of top Major League Eaters.”
