Overview of El Cortez

Once owned by Bugsy Siegel, the hotel and casino’s true history lies with legend Jackie Gaughan who bought it in 1961. It remains in the heart of downtown on Fremont Street, one block from the Fremont Experience. The Gaughan family pride themselves on delivering value, and keeping a slice of Old Vegas alive. The main building has kept much of the same look as it had in 1941. Jackie, 83, is still on the casino floor near daily. Room rates start at $30 in the main building and $35 in the tower. Those that book online receive a few extra perks.

Rumor: When the casino cocktail waitresses come up to you they say, “Hi, can the El Cortez buy you a drink?”
