Sahara Hotel & Casino
Editor’s note: The Sahara closed permanently in May 2011.
Sahara is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip. It is the northernmost stop for the Monorail and ranks as the last remaining vintage “Rat Pack” casino-hotel. The theme of the hotel is Moroccan and offers a warm welcome for its guests.
The hotel open in 1952 and was the sixth resort to open on the Strip. In 1963 a 24-story tower was added. In 1987 another tower was added (this time 27 stories) and new porte-cochere was added by the relocated pool in 1997. In 1999, the roller coaster called Speed-The Ride and the NASCAR restaurant were added.

Number of rooms and suites
Sahara offers a total of 1,720 guestrooms and suites.
Sahara offers a total gaming space of more than 85,000 sq ft. Those who choose to gamble at Sahara will be happy to hear that the $1 Blackjack is back. Dollar Days at Sahara include not only the $1 minimum blackjack but also $1 beers, $1 hot dogs and $1 shots.
The table games within the casino include blackjack, poker, roulette and craps. It also offers classic slots, video poker and keno machines.
Sahara is a very affordable place to stay on the Strip. Standard rooms start at $20 per night. Deluxe rooms start at $26 per night, premium rooms at $33 per night, superior rooms at $39 per night and suites at $59 per night. Make sure to book in advance because the hotel gets full pretty easily.
There’s a seven stories parking space available with entrances on the Strip and Paradise Road. The lanes are narrow. The access to the hotel is located on ground level.
Sahara doesn’t offer too many dining options but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a variety of cuisines to choose from. There’s an incredible steakhouse – the House of Lords – and three cafes.
