Celine Dion’s 500th Show

celinedion.jpgThis Sunday, superstar singer Celine Dion will celebrate the 500th performance of her hit show, A New Day…, with a charity performance. Proceeds from ticket sales, a grand total of $1 million, will be split amongst ten Vegas charities.

There is concern, however, that she may not be able to actually perform on Sunday night. In the past few weeks, she’s had to cancel several shows due to labyrinthitis, a viral illness that causes an inflammation of the inner ear. This leads to dizziness and a loss of balance.

Doctors prescribed medicine to treat the illness, but Dion has reportedly refused to take it, fearing it would dry out her sensitive vocal cords. Through her reps, she says she feels almost 100 percent better, but doctors are still concerned about flare ups of the illness if she pushes herself too hard before fully recovering.

Dion, however, says she feels it’s her duty to give back to Vegas, as it’s now her home, and she’ll be on stage no matter what for Sunday night’s show. She personally reviewed more than 100 local needy causes before narrowing it down to her final picks: Project Sunshine, the Rape Crisis Center, I Have a Dream, Center for Independent Living, Aids for AIDS Nevada, Foundation for Independent Tomorrow, New Vista Ranch, Lied Animal Foundation and the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. Each will receive $100,000 from Dion.
