Rita Rudner To Take Over for Clint Holmes

Rita Rudner and Clint HolmesThe extremely funny Rita Rudner is leaving her stage home of the past five years, The Cabaret Theatre at New York-New York. Rudner’s last show will be on June 10, after which her theater will be remodeled and re-opened as the Vegas locale of the popular Crobar Nightclub.

She will reportedly take the summer and early fall to promote her new book, “Turning Tables,” which will be released August 29. Rudner willl then settle into her new home at Harrah’s, replacing Clint Holmes, for a one-year deal with options beginning on October 2.

But what about Holmes?

Neither the singer nor Harrah’s will offer an official comment, but rumors are swirling that Holmes will retire from the Strip after his current contract is up this fall — at least from the grind of daily performances. Last year the popular Vegas entertainer was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent surgery. He had a full recovery, and after only three weeks of recuperation was already back on stage. But sources say the health scare changed his priorities and he may be looking to perform in short-term engagements to free up time for other personal projects, such as a rumored Broadway show written by and starring Holmes.

A PBS crew did film Holmes earlier this month for a special that will air August 5, 2006. A new cd will also be released around that date to coincide with the special.
