Mirage Volcano Closed for Rehab

Mirage Volcano Closed for RehabVisitors to Vegas may notice one of the Strip’s icons is strangely silent this month. That’s because the famous volcano in front of the Mirage resort has been closed for rehab.

According to the Mirage website, the projected reopening of the volcano is slated for sometime this fall, but gives very little other information. An inside source says plans are underway to add additional walkways to offer more viewing areas for guests, as well as adding elements to the show to enhance the overall “wow!” factor of the attraction.

The popular nightly show last got an update over ten years ago, when Wet Design upgraded the fire and water effects, and once again, the company has been put in charge of the remodel. Wet Design is also responsible for the amazing Bellagio Fountains.

Wayne Brady Signs Extension

Following last month’s announcement that multi-faceted entertainer Wayne Brady would be taking over the showroom at The Venetian following Gordie Brown’s departure last week, word comes that Brady’s future at the resort has been locked in past the original mid-summer end date.

Brady reportedly has received an another extension on his contract that has the performer appearing at The Venetian until the end of July 2009. His comedic improv show has been a huge hit with audiences and it looks like the resort has faith that the laughs and ticket sales will continue to be strong.

The entertainer will also continue to juggle his Vegas show with his duties as host for the returning Fox TV game show, “Don’t Forget the Lyrics!”

Tickets for Wayne Brady at The Venetian Showroom are $49 to $149 each, with the top tier tickets including front row seating and a meet-and-greet after the show. Brady performs Thursdays through Mondays at 9pm.

Rich Little Cancels All Shows

Legendary celebrity impersonator Rich Little has canceled all remaining shows at the Golden Nugget downtown, through the end of his contract in April. Representatives say that Little is experiencing serious health issues that prevent him from performing, but he is responding well to treatments. Our best wishes go out to him as he recovers.

In the meantime, if you are holding tickets for any of the canceled shows, you are advised to return them to the Golden Nugget box office or call 702.386.8100 to obtain a refund.
