An Early Look at Echelon Place

Earlier this week, Boyd Gaming announced projected costs for the Echelon Place project were being increased to $4.8 billion. So just what will that amount of money bring to Vegas visitors? Let’s look at some of the highlights of this megaresort complex.

The Delano, a popular South Beach/Miami boutique hotel, will offer 600 rooms and suites, along with a nightclub, lobby bar, an Asian restaurant, a full service fitness center and a pool area.

The Mondrian, a upscale Hollywood hideaway, will be a bit larger and focus on the business travelers. It will offer 1,000 rooms and suites, an unspecified restaurant, a private pool with Skybar and 60,000-sq.-ft. of meeting space.

The two Morgans Group hotels will share the attached Agua Spa.

The Shangri-La Las Vegas, will seem tiny, compared to the other hotels, with a mere 330 guest rooms and 70 suites. But it will also offer the 20,000-sq.-ft. CHI Spa, meeting space, two restaurants, and the award-winning Shangri-La quality of service. It will be a hotel within a hotel, located in the upper floors of the Hotel Echelon tower.

Rounding out the hotel space will be the Echelon Resort, comprised of the 2,600-room Hotel Echelon tower and the neighboring 700-room Suites at Echelon tower. The Hotel Echelon will also be home to the Spa at Echelon.

The five hotels will be connected to a central hub that encompasses a 140,000-sq.-ft. casino area, over 25 restaurants and bars, the 350,000-sq.-ft. retail promenade, two entertainment venues (a 4,000-seat performance venue and a smaller 1,500-seat theater), and the huge 650,000-sq.-ft. Las Vegas Expo Center.

The complex will also offer individual porte-cochere areas for each hotel, for easier guest access, as well as 7,000 parking spaces (both valet and self-parking).

Echelon Place sits on the 87 acres where the Stardust formerly stood. Of this, 22 acres will still remain mostly undeveloped, serving as surface parking while the company decides how best to use the land.

It is scheduled to open in late 2010.
