Las Vegas Toast of the Century Breaks Guinness Record

Las Vegas Toast of the Century Breaks Guinness RecordOn New Year’s Eve 2005, the Mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar B. Goodman, raised a glass to toast the arrival of a new year and a new century for the city. A capacity crowd of revelers at the Fremont Street Experience joined him in the toast and it was confirmed this week that the 13,500 participants broke the record for the “largest simultaneous toast in one venue.”

Guiness World Records said to qualify, all documented participants must be led in a toast, raise their glasses in unison and drink at the same time. The event shatters the previous record of 10,079 held by a Japanese sake company.

Beaulieu Vineyard sponsored the recordbreaking attempt as part of their backing of the city’s entire Centennial celebration, and produced a special vintage, Century Cellars Chardonnay by BV, for the toast.

When asked for a comment, Mayor Goodman simply stated, “Las Vegas knows how to throw a party and this confirms that we do it bigger and better than anyone.”
