The Frontier Sold To New York Developers

The Frontier Sold To New York DevelopersThe Frontier, one of the Strip’s last classic Vegas hotels, was recently sold to the Elad Group, a New York Development firm, for approximately $1.2 billion. The company says it plans to build a 3,500 room luxury hotel and casino, with the firm’s already established “The Plaza” brand name.

Though the opening date for the $5 billion 34.5 acre project is set for a 2011 opening, Vegas visitors will already note one snag in the details before plans have even been drawn up: there’s already a “Plaza” hotel in downtown Vegas, which has been there since the 70s.

So either the Elad Group is going to have to shell out big bucks to get the rights to the name in Vegas or they’re going to have to change their name. I can’t see the downtown hotel giving up its moniker without a fight or a healthy buy-out.

No date has been set for the closure of the Frontier or its demolition to make room for the new resort.
