Three Injured in Fitzgeralds Elevator Malfunction

Early this afternoon, three people suffered minor injuries when an elevator at Fitzgeralds casino-hotel suddenly plunged and made what a hotel spokesperson referred to as a “hard landing.”

Thankfully the emergency brakes kicked in and nobody was seriously harmed.

After reviewing video of the incident, officials believe the elevator was over its weight limit, which caused it to malfunction. According to reports, the elevator was completely full as it headed down from the 26th floor, and at the time it malfunctioned, there were nine people, a cart of luggage and a bell man in the elevator.

Two adults and one child were taken to the hospital for minor back, elbow and knee injuries and the elevator has been checked and cleared to operate again.

Fitzgeralds is located downtown on Fremont Street.
