Vegas News Bits for July 10, 2007

Just a few quick Vegas notes of interest for you today:

  • Steven Zegrean, the New York-New York shooting suspect, was arraigned in court today. Bail was set at more than $4.6 million for the 51-year old Vegas resident, who police say staked out the casino, waiting for all children to leave before entering and opening fire. He reportedly did so in a suicide attempt to get police to shoot him. The judge set a preliminary hearing for July 24th at 9:30 am and Zegrean faces multiple charges including burglary while in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, battery with the use of a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm into a structure.

  • The semi-finals of the hit NBC show “America’s Got Talent” air tonight and they take place at Planet Hollywood. Expect to see lots of the resort and its amenities and shows (like “Stomp Out Loud“) shown around the performance segments. The show airs at 8pm eastern/pacific. Beacher’s Madhouse favorite Leonid the Magnificent is still in the running, much to the chagrin of show judge David Hasselhoff.

  • Sagebrush Ranch has a new address at 10141 Azure Dr. They still offer horseback rides and lessons by reservation to visitors and locals alike. For more information, you can reach them at 702.645.9422.

  • Fire officials say they think it was a welder’s torch that sparked a two-alarm blaze at the construction site of the Palazzo Tower at the Venetian on Sunday morning. No injuries were reported from the fire, but it’s estimated that the property incurred about $100,000 in damage.
